Kashi Products Falsely Claim To Be Natural

Health food maker Kashi Company was recently hit with a class action accusing it of falsely advertising that many of its products, including GoLean Protein & Fiber Bars, and GoLean Crunch cereal, were “all natural” when they actually contained synthetic and artificial ingredients. The complaint, filed in San Francisco federal court, says that customers were cheated when they paid a premium for “all natural” food products over less expensive, non-natural alternatives. One such product is “composed almost entirely of synthetic unnaturally processed ingredients,” the class claims.  Consumers must and do rely on food companies to give truthful information with regard to their food products.  While a good company need not provide all-natural ingredients, it can’t falsely label its products as ‘all natural’ in the hopes of capturing the growing nature market.  The class seeks compensatory and punitive damages and statutory penalties for unair and fraudulent business practices, false advertising, violation of California’s Legal Remedies Act, restitution, and more.  The attorneys at Balkan & Patterson, LLP are experienced in class action litigation and will act to protect consumers against corporate wrongdoers.
