Metal-on-Metal Hip Implants

The FDA has received more than 5,000 adverse event reports in the first six months of 2011 regarding metal-on-metal hip replacement devices, which is more than the agency received in the prior four years combined.  The National Joint Registry for England and Wales reported that all metal-on-metal hip devices had a rapidly increasing failure rate overall verses traditional hip replacement.  Metal-on-metal hip implants shed tiny particles of cobalt and chromium as they wear, thereby potentially destroying tissue and muscles in patients.  The DePuy ASR XL Acetabular System by Johnson & Johnson Company and the Durom Acetabular Component by Zimmer Holdings, Inc., have been voluntarily recalled due to high failure rates, however other metal-on-metal hip implants, such as DePuy Pinnacle, are supposedly causing similar types of injuries.  The attorneys at Balkan & Patterson, LLP are experienced in class action litigation and are currently investigating all metal-on-metal hip implant claims.  If you or someone you know has suffered complications from a metal-on-metal hip implant, please contact us immediately and we will review the case at no charge.
