Federal Trade Commission Files Complaint for Permanent Injunction Against Inbound Call Experts, LLC

The FTC has filed an emergency complaint for permanent injunction against Inbound Call Experts, LLC (“ICE”). According to the FTC complaint, ICE operates a massive internet- based scheme in which they lure consumers, many of whom are senior citizens, to call an inbound call center and then dupe consumers into purchasing computer technical support services and unnecessary computer software. Consumers spend between $150 to $500 to fix nonexistant problems with their computers. By exploiting consumers’ concerns about Internet threats like spyware and viruses, ICE scare consumers into believing that their computers are in imminent danger in order to sell consumers software protection products and unnecessary computer security or technical support services. Since at least 2012, ICE has employed a variety of methods to lure consumers to call their inbound call centers.
