Bank of America Sued in Privacy Source Class Action
Bank of America has been sued in a class action for charging accountholders $12.99 a month for “privacy source credit monitoring,” despite the fact that customers did not want it, didn’t ask for it, and were not told about it.  Robert Long of Dallas, the class action representative, alleges that he noticed charges for $12.99 from Privacy Source appearing on his monthly bank statement.  He inquired into these charges with Bank of America who told him that the charges were for a privacy monitoring service and that he would have to contact Privacy Source to inquire about a refund. Long did some research and discovered that Privacy Source was owned by Bank of America, a fact that the corporate giant failed to reveal. Privacy Source uses electronic funds transfer (EFT) to take its monthly $12.99 subscription fee from customers’ accounts. The lawsuit charges that many Bank of America customers may not be aware they are being charged for a service they don’t realize they have. Long further alleges that when customers try to cancel, the aggressive telemarketers from Privacy Source use high-pressure tactics to dissuade them. Long says that Bank of America refused to give him a full refund even though it could not produce any evidence that he had ever ordered the service. The attorneys at Balkan & Patterson, LLP are experienced in class action litigation and will act to protect consumers against corporate wrongdoers.
