Parents in West Boynton Request Neighborhood Charter Schools
Parents from West Boynton Beach are unhappy with the lack of a community middle school and high school and are trying to create a charter school for their neighborhood. The Canyon Area Parents for a Neighborhood Charter School have come up with a proposal that will help the district open a charter school with little financial impact on the district’s limited budget. The group plans to present the idea to the Palm Beach County School Board on Wednesday, June 15. School district officials, however, have indicated that nearby middle schools are not overcrowded and that they do not have the money to build schools beyond the ones already approved for the next 15 years. West Boynton parents claim that their children are forced to attend school too far from home, which in turn creates incredible hardships for the students, particularly those who want to participate in after-school activities. Some students in West Boynton must travel 30 minutes to Olympic Heights High West of Boca Raton. Many new homes are being built in the West Boynton Beach area and home-buyers with children should take note of these growing concerns.
